Turkmenistan To Allow Expats In Europe To Vote

December 11, 2008
Many Turkmen living abroad will be able to participate in the December 14 parliamentary elections for the first time ever.

An official at the Turkmen Embassy in Vienna told RFE/RL's Turkmen Service that a polling station will be set up in the embassy for all Turkmen nationals living in Austria.

He said Turkmen wishing to vote must send a copy of an application to the embassy at least one day before the elections. The original must be brought to the embassy at the time of voting. The embassy will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on December 14.

Similar polling stations will be set up at Turkmen embassies in Berlin, Paris, Brussels, and London.
