Ukrainian Official Arrested For Bribe-Taking

CHERNIHIV, Ukraine -- The head of the Chernihiv Oblast department for emergency situations in Ukraine was arrested after being caught red-handed while taking bribe, RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service reports.

Agents of the Interior Ministry's organized crime department conducted the operation after they received information that the department head extorted $5,000 and two expensive mobile phones from his subordinate in exchange for promising him a promotion.

Investigations are under way.
