Uzbek Sent From Gitmo To Switzerland

TEXT SIZE - +
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- An Uzbek detainee held at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba has been sent to Switzerland, the U.S. Justice Department has said.

The transfer was the latest prisoner removed from the facility as the Obama administration seeks to close the controversial prison for foreign terrorism suspects.

But there are still 192 prisoners at the facility, which opened in 2002 and has long been criticized by human rights activists and foreign governments.

Some critics say the facility has served as a recruiting symbol for anti-American militants.
