KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- A suicide bombing attack on a police office has killed at least 12 people in central Afghanistan.
Officials said a suicide bomber snuck into a dining hall at lunchtime inside a police base in Tari Kot, the capital of the central Afghan province of Oruzgan, in the July 5 attack.
Provincial spokesman Abdullah Himmat says authorities were investigating how the suicide bomber passed through three checkpoints to enter the crowded hall around noon.
Five more people were wounded in the attack.
Himmat says civilians were among the casualties.
The police were responsible for securing a major highway linking Oruzgan with neighboring Kandahar Province.
Taliban insurgents have claimed responsibility for the attack.
