NATO ambassadors meeting in Brussels agreed outlines of a plan to create a training academy for senior Iraqi Army officers in the country.

NATO spokesman James Apputhurai said details such as rules of engagement still needed to be worked out. He said no date was agreed but the alliance wanted to launch a mission as soon as possible.

The Pentagon yesterday said U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld will request quicker action from NATO at a meeting next week in the face of intensifying violence in Iraq.
