Milosevic Trial Adjourned Until Next Month

22 October 2004 -- The Hague tribunal said today that former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic's trial has been adjourned until November.

The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) said in a statement that the trial was postponed due to the absence of witnesses next week and a break already scheduled the following week.

The trial is set to resume on 9 November.

Many defense witnesses say they will not testify unless the court allows Milosevic to resume running his own defense rather than force him to use court-imposed lawyers.

Milosevic is charged with genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes in Croatia, Bosnia, and Kosovo in the 1990s. He does not recognize the court.
