Bosnian Serb Police Fail To Find Suspect
30 October 2004 -- Bosnian Serb police today failed in an attempt to find a former military police commander wanted by the UN war crimes tribunal for atrocities committed during Bosnia's 1992-95 war.
A four-hour police operation in the southeastern town of Foca failed to locate Gojko Jankovic, who is accused of raping and torturing Muslim women during the war.
Bosnian Serbs are coming under increasing U.S. and EU pressure to cooperate with the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague, the Netherlands. Bosnian Serb authorities have failed to arrest a single suspect sought by the UN tribunal since the end of the Bosnian war.
Suspects still at large include the two men most wanted by The Hague, Bosnian Serb wartime leader Radovan Karadzic and his army commander Ratko Mladic.
