U.S. Marine Killed In Iraq

February 22, 2005

22 February 2005 -- The U.S. military today announced a U.S. Marine has died in action in western Iraq.

A military statement said the soldier died yesterday while "conducting security and stability operations" in Anbar Province.

Anbar has long been the site of insurgent violence. The province includes the volatile cities of Ramadi, Al-Fallujah, and Qaim on the Syrian border.

At least 1,470 U.S. troops have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003.
