Blast At Home Of Chechen Official Injures Six

August 19, 2005

19 August 2005 (RFE/RL) -- A blast ripped through the home of a Chechen government official today, injuring six people, some of them children.

The Interfax news agency quotes a senior local official as saying the explosion almost completely destroyed the home of the Chechen minister in charge of housing, Abu Sugaipov, in the village of Avturii, in the Shali Raion.

The deputy head of the local administration, Ramzan Tasukhanov, said it appeared unknown perpetrators had put a powerful explosive device either on the roof or in the attic of the house.

It was not immediately clear whether Sugaipov was home at the time of the explosion.
