Polish Center-Right Parties Appear Headed For Victory

25 September 2005 -- Exit polls indicate Polish voters have ousted the left-wing government of Prime Minister
Marek Belka in today's parliamentary elections.
The unofficial exit polls give a broad majority to two center-right parties that promise tax cuts and clean
government.
They show the conservative Law and Justice Party with over 27 percent of the vote, and the free-market Civic Platform
with 24 percent.
The governing Democratic Left Alliance, which has been hit by corrupution scandals, lagged with just over 11 percent. The election was characterized by a low turnout. This was Poland's fifth fully democratic ballot after the collapse of
communism in 1989.
