U.S., EU To Join New Round Of Transdniester Talks

28 September 2005 -- Stalled talks on the future of Moldova's separatist Transdniester region will resume next month with the participation of the United States and the European Union.
Klaus Neukirch of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) mission in Moldova made the announcement today.
He said all sides welcomed the inclusion of Washington and Brussels as observers in the next round of discussion, adding that observers had virtually the same right as current participants.
Talks to resolve the conflict, which have been frozen since 2003, previously included representatives from Moldova, Transdniester, Russia, Ukraine, and the OSCE.
Transdniester broke away from Moldova in 1990. The move triggered an armed conflict two years later that killed more than 1,500 people.
