Russia Urges OSCE Probe Of South Ossetia Incident

October 05, 2005

5 October 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Russia has called for an international investigation into the shelling of the capital of the breakaway region of South Ossetia in Georgia.

ITAR-TASS quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying that Moscow has called for a joint investigation with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) into the 20 September incident.

The proposal followed a meeting yesterday between Russian First Deputy Foreign Minister Valerii Loshchinin and South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity.

About 10 people were wounded when unidentified assailants shelled the regional capital of South Ossetia, Tskhinvali.
