UN Authorizes Kosovo's Final Status Talks

Washington, 24 October 2005 (RFE/RL) -- The UN Security Council has approved the launching of internationally mediated talks on resolving Kosovo's final status.

The council also reaffirmed its commitment to the goal of a multiethnic and democratic Kosovo.

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan says he is likely to name a special envoy for the talks within the next week.
