Five Police Killed By Blast In Afghanistan

November 16, 2005

(RFE/RL)

16 November 2005 -- Afghan officials say five police officers were killed and two were injured after the vehicle they were traveling in hit a mine in the southeastern province of Paktika.

Yousif Stanikzai, an Interior Ministry spokesperson, today said the blast took place in Amna district of the province on 15 November.

Stanikzai said suspected supporters of the ousted Taliban regime had planted the mine. He said two suspects were arrested.

The spokesman said that in a separate attack, a rocket landed Tuesday night near a mosque in Kabul, damaging one its walls. No one was injured in the attack.
