January 05, 2006
5 January 2006 (RFE/RL) -- Bahodyr Matlyubov has been appointed Uzbekistan's new interior minister.
Matlyubov previously held high positions in the Interior Ministry and the Customs Committee.
He replaces Zokir Almatov, who left for health reasons last month.
Almatov was among Uzbek officials the European Union placed on a visa-restriction list for their role in suppressing a protest in the eastern Uzbek city of Andijon last year that left at least 187 people dead.
