UN Prosecutors To Receive Mladic's Medical File

11 January 2006 - UN war-crimes prosecutors have asked Belgrade to hand over the medical file of fugitive Bosnian Serb commander Ratko Mladic.


Rasim Ljajic, the Serbian official in charge of relations with the Hague-based war-crimes tribunal, said Mladic's medical record will be given to the prosecutors, who hope the file will provide clues as to his current whereabouts.


Mladic was charged in 1995 with genocide for allegedly orchestrating the massacre of 8,000 Muslims from Srebrenica as well as a range of other atrocities.


The Serb government says it has been unable to locate Mladic, but UN prosecutors say they believe he is hiding in Serbia and enjoys the protection of the Serbian military.


Serbian media have reported that Mladic was seriously ill, but this has not been confirmed.
