Tight Security In Place For Palestinian Elections

24 January 2006 -- Thousands of police are deployed in the Palestinian territories to protect polling stations, even as militant factions pledged not to disrupt voting on the eve of parliamentary elections.

Tomorrow will see the first parliamentary elections held in a decade. The vote pits the ruling Fatah Party against the Palestinian militant group Hamas.


Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas has already discussed possible post-election cooperation with Hamas leaders.
