Ten Face Charges Over Deadly Iran Bombings

27 January 2006 (RFE/RL) -- Iran has made number of arrests in the aftermath of recent twin bomb attacks in the city of Ahvaz, according to local media reports.

Local media is reporting that 10 suspects have been charged and handed over to the judiciary.

Eight people were killed and 46 were wounded in the 24 January blasts, in an oil-rich area in southwestern Iran populated by many ethnic Arabs.

The regime immediately blamed the United Kingdom for involvement in the explosions. U.K. officials denied that accusation as being completely without foundation.

Iranians are reporting that their access to Facebook and Internet-based e-mail sites like Gmail has been blocked, without any explanation from the government. Not even the strongest antifiltering programs have penetrated the firewall, they say.
