27 January 2006 -- Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev said today that he will not act on a call by parliament to dismiss the chairman of the country's National Security Service.

Parliament voted onĀ 26 January in favor of a resolution calling on security chief Tashtemir Aitbaev to resign amid a feud between Aitbaev and Prime Minister Feliks Kulov. Kulov accused Aitbaev of failing to fight corruption and the influence of criminal groups in government.

Bakiev said in a statement that he has not seen any evidence that would suggest there were grounds for dismissing Aitbaev.

Bakiev said in his statement that he was prepared to dismiss any official "provided there are irrefutable facts of their illegal actions."
