27 January 2006 -- Armed men shot dead a police officer and his cousin in the restive southern Russian region of Daghestan today.

The local Interior Ministry said the attack happened as the police officer was traveling in a police car to his home near the city of Khasavyurt, close to the border with Chechnya.
