Kyrgyz Assistant Security Council Secretary Resigns

28 January 2006 -- Vyacheslav Khan, the assistant secretary of Kyrgyzstan's Security Council, announced at a press conference today that he handed in his resignation.
"I have already written it, the request to resign. I am prepared to sacrifice myself for my boss [Security Council Secretary Miroslav Niyazov]," Khan said.
Khan said he made the decision after a number of parliamentary deputies called for him to step down.
Earlier in the week, some deputies and Prime Minister Feliks Kulov criticized the work of the law enforcement agencies in the country, saying they had failed to reign in corruption and allowed criminal elements to influence the work of the government.
Khan said he did not want to be a cause for applying pressure on the administration or the Security Council.
Khan also denied accusations of some deputies that he held Russian and Kazakh citizenship. He said he has requested clarification from the Russian and Kazakh embassies to prove the charge was not true.
