BISHKEK, 1 February 2006 (RFE/RL) -- Kyrgyz Prime Minister Feliks Kulov today ordered police to step up their efforts to fight organized crime in the country, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reported.

Kulov on 25 January accused police and security forces of a signal failure to combat organized crime and corruption.

His statements have been followed by an overhaul of Kyrgyzstan's law-enforcement agencies, including the departures of at least three senior officials.
