13 February 2006 -- A report says three soldiers were killed in the latest fighting in Chechnya.

The French news agency AFP quotes an unnamed official in the pro-Russian Chechen government as saying two Russian army soldiers were killed and one was injured during seven separate attacks by rebels on troop positions in a 24-hour period.

The official said one member of a locally formed pro-Moscow army unit was killed and four were injured in a clash with rebels in the western district of Achkhoi Martan. Two rebels were killed in the same clash.

The report could not be independently confirmed.
