Parliamentary Seat Of Former Kyrgyz President's Son Under Threat

In an interview with RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service today, Sultanov said he will put the issue on the parliament's agenda next month on the grounds that Aidar Akaev has failed to attend sessions of parliament and to carry out his duties as a member of parliament.
Aidar Akaev has already been stripped of his parliamentary immunity.
Kyrgyzstan is seeking Aidar Akaev's extradition from Russia, where he fled after the March 2005 uprising that ousted his father. He is wanted for alleged extortion and money laundering.
He says the extradition request is politically motivated.
His sister, Bermet, lost her parliamentary seat in 2005 for alleged violations during last year's election campaign.
Sultanov, who was elected parliament speaker on March 2, also urged the executive and legislative powers to work closely to continue democratic reforms.
