March 10, 2006 -- Kosovo's parliament today elected as the province's new prime minister a former ethnic Albanian rebel commander whom Serbia accuses of war crimes.
Agim Ceku, who is 44, will head the coalition government at a sensitive time for the breakaway Serbian province, with UN-mediated talks between Kosovo and Serbia under way to determine whether the disputed province becomes independent.
Serbian authorities in Belgrade say they are investigating Ceku for war crimes allegedly committed during the 1998-99 Kosovo war and have issued an international warrant for his arrest.
