Tajikistan Registers Over 1,000 New TB Cases This Year

March 22, 2006 -- A Tajik health official says more than 1,000 new cases of tuberculosis (TB) have been officially registered in Tajikistan since the start of 2006.


Sadullo Saidaliev, who heads Tajikistan's tuberculosis center, said there are some 13,000 TB sufferers in Tajikistan.


Saidaliev said that the Khatlon Region of southern Tajikistan is the area hardest-hit.
