Iran, Syria Blast Israel Over Nuclear Program

March 25, 2006 -- Top officials from Syria and Iran today denounced Israel's nuclear program as a threat to the Middle East.

The statement came following talks between visiting Syrian First Vice President Faruq al-Shara and Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki.

Israel is widely believed to have nuclear weapons although it has neither confirmed nor denied its arsenal.

Iran has been accused by Western nations of concealing a nuclear weapons program, but denies the charges.

Iranian state television said the two officials also discussed Iraq, calling for a meeting of regional foreign ministers to look for ways to help the establishment of security and stability in that country.

Syria is Iran's main regional ally.
