March 29, 2006 -- U.S. President George W. Bush says Saddam Hussein, not continued American involvement in Iraq, is responsible for the ongoing sectarian violence.

Bush made the comment in a Washington speech today. It was his third speech this month to bolster public support for the war.

The president said Hussein was a tyrant and used violence to exacerbate sectarian divisions to keep himself in power. Bush said that as a result, deep tensions persist to this day in Iraq.
