March 30, 2006 -- The European Union is urging Serbia to act "without delay" to bring top war crimes suspect Ratko Mladic to justice or else run the risk of a suspension of talks on closer ties.
EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn said today that he will receive a report on March 31 from chief UN war crimes prosecutor Carla del Ponte on the extent of Belgrade's cooperation.
He was speaking to reporters in Brussels after talks with Bosnian Prime Minister Adnan Terzic.
His comments come ahead of a new round of talks between the EU and Belgrade slated for April 5.
Mladic is a former Bosnian-Serb military commander who is charged with genocide for crimes committed during the 1990s Bosnian wars.
