April 13, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- Moscow's Taganka district court today upheld a Justice Ministry decision to deny Russia's National-Bolshevik Party (NBP) official registration.

The NBP says in a statement it will appeal the ruling to higher Russian tribunals and the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

Citing violations of the law on political parties, the Justice Ministry on January 30 decided to not register the NBP. This was the fifth such denial since 1998.

The NBP, which is headed by former emigre writer Eduard Limonov, is a radical youth movement with strong anti-Kremlin rhetoric.
