Kazakhstan Protests Alleged Abduction By Uzbek Guards

April 24, 2006 -- Kazakhstan today protested the alleged abduction and beating of a Kazakh citizen by Uzbek border guards.


The Kazakh Foreign Ministry said in a statement that four Uzbek border guards on April 19 crossed into Kazakhstan and took a shepherd, Baurzhan Akhmetov, across the border and beat him.


Uzbek Foreign Ministry officials were not available for comments.
