May 1, 2006 -- Iran says the United States is contravening United Nations principles by threatening to take
military action against the Islamic republic.
Iran's state news agency IRNA reports today that Iran has complained about the matter in a letter to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
The letter condemns American officials for what it call their illegitimate threats to use force against Iran. The letter says this is a clear breach of international rules and the principles of the United Nations, and should be quickly dealt with by the UN Security Council.
Wahington has repeatedly said it wants to use diplomatic means to solve the crisis over Iran's nuclear program, but it has also said that it does not rule out other options, including the possible use of military strikes.
