PRAGUE, June 29, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- The British branch of human rights group Amnesty International says that two leading Russian journalists today urged the British government to raise concerns at deteriorating press freedoms in Russia.

In a June 29 meeting with Human Rights Minister Ian McCartney in London, Stanislav Dmitrievsky and Oksana Chelysheva of the Russian Chechen Information Agency called on the British government to support journalists' and activists' work to defend press freedoms in Russia.

Earlier this week, the two journalists had received Amnesty International's Journalism Under Threat human rights award.
