September 19, 2006 -- Iran's state-controlled television says the United States had denied visas to 15 Iranian journalists who were to accompany President Mahmud Ahmadinejad to the UN General Assembly in New York.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini was quoted as saying by Iranian media that this is not the first time the United States has failed to live up to commitments made to the United Nations.

He said the denial "shows U.S. weakness regarding the free flow of information."
