Romania Denies Mass Emigration Likely After EU Entry

September 25, 2006 -- Romanian Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu has denied that Romania's accession into the European Union will trigger a wave of mass emigration from the country.

Speaking to the "Financial Times" newspaper, Tariceanu said Romania's expanding economy would actually attract migrants to work there.


The European Union's executive is due to give the go-ahead this week for Romania and Bulgaria to join in 2007.
