September 26, 2006 -- The remains of the mother of Russia's last tsar have arrived in Russia to be reburied in St. Petersburg.

Maria Fyodorovna was the mother of Tsar Nicholas II, who was killed together with his family by the Bolsheviks.

Fyodorovna, a Danish-born princess before she married Tsar Aleksandr III, Nicholas's father, fled Russia after the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution.

The coffin arrived in the Baltic Sea port of Kronstadt today aboard a Danish naval ship at the start of two days of ceremonies.

Maria Fyodorovna will be reburied in St. Petersburg in the Romanov family vault.

She will be the last emperess to be buried in the vault, where every tsar and tsarina since Peter the Great is buried.
