October 10, 2006 -- Georgian officials have blamed the authorities in the separatist region of South Ossetia for a border incident in which two Georgian policemen were injured.

Tbilisi says that gunmen opened fire on Georgian police in a village that lies in the conflict zone within South Ossetia. Tbilisi said the incident was an act of provocation.

A spokeswoman for the separatist government said the police were injured in an explosion and that South Ossetians were not involved.
