Over 300,000 Iraqis Displaced Since Invasion

October 10, 2006 -- More than 300,000 Iraqis have fled their homes for other parts of Iraq to escape violence since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003.

Statistics released by Iraq's Immigration Ministry indicate that the rate has accelerated in the past six months, reflecting an upsurge in sectarian violence.


The figure assumes that the 51,000 families that have fled have an average of six members.
