Iranian Daily Back On Sale, Minus Political News

October 21, 2006 -- A new moderate Iranian daily, "Ruzgar," was published again today after being pulled from newsstands on October 19 after receiving warnings from the Culture Ministry that it cannot cover political news.

The managing editor of "Ruzgar," Farzaneh Kharghani, says that, for now, the newspaper will refrain from publishing political news and analysis.

The format of the newspaper was also changed in order to continue its publication.

"Ruzgar" was first published on October 16.

Most of its staffers are former employees of the leading reformist "Sharq" daily, which was shut down in September.

More than 100 reformist and moderate publications have been closed in Iran in recent years.
