Iran, Jordan Praise Mecca Declaration

October 22, 2006 -- Iran and Jordan today welcomed a joint declaration by Iraqi Sunni and Shi'ite clerics calling for an end to sectarian violence in Iraq.
The declaration was signed on October 20 in Mecca by 29 Iraqi clerics.
In Tehran today, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini welcomed the move as a good sign. Jordanian government spokesman Nasser Jawdeh made a similar statement in Amman.
