November 18, 2006 -- A rival of Chechen Prime Minister Ramzan Kadyrov has been shot dead by police in Moscow.

Police reports said that Movladi Baisarov, who was wanted on charges of murder, had resisted arrest and attempted to throw a hand grenade at a police officer.

MORE: Coverage in Russian from RFE/RL's Russian Service.

Baisarov was the bodyguard of former Chechen President Akhmed-hadj Kadyrov, who was assassinated in May 2004.
