October Was Deadliest Month Yet For Iraqis

November 22, 2006 -- The United Nations today said that the number of civilian deaths in Iraq reached a new high in October.


The latest UN report on the matter, based on Health Ministry data, puts the civilian death toll in October at 3,709, up from 3,345 in September.


The report says the capital, Baghdad, was the most violent area of the country.


It added that most of the bodies found in the capital bore signs of torture and gunshot wounds.
