Azerbaijani Broadcaster Appeals Closure

PRAGUE, November 28, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- An independent Azerbaijani television and radio channel, ANS, today appealed in court against a government decision to stop its broadcasts.

Authorities pulled ANS from the air on November 24, saying its license was no longer valid.


The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe on November 27 sent a letter to President Ilham Aliyev expressing concern about what it called the deteriorating media situation in Azerbaijan.
