Israel Proposes New Ministry On Iran

December 3, 2006 -- An Israeli official said his government today approved the creation of a new ministry for strategic affairs, to deal mainly with Iran's nuclear ambitions.

The official said the new ministry will be responsible "for coordination between the different bodies regarding the different strategic threats Israel is facing," most notably Iran's nuclear program.


Israel and the United States believe the nuclear program is aimed at acquiring a nuclear bomb, despite Tehran's denials.


The government decision must be approved by the parliament.
