FIFA Lifts Ban On Iran

December 20, 2006 -- FIFA, world soccer's ruling body, today lifted its ban on Iran.

FIFA released a statement saying that all teams and officials of the Iranian football federation may participate in international events "with immediate effect."

Iran was suspended from international competition in November after FIFA accused the Iranian government of interfering in the national soccer federation.
