Media Watchdog Tells Iran To Leave Journalists Alone

January 11, 2007

(RFE/RL)

January 11, 2007 (RFE/RL) -- The French media watchdog Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has called on Iran to put an end to what it describes as a wave of arbitrary arrests and harassment of media workers throughout the country.

The press group says journalists who dare to criticize President Mahmud Ahmadinejad are accused of crimes ranging from threatening state security to treason.

RSF has also called for the release of Ali Farahbakhsh and Kaveh Javanmard, two journalists who have been held since late last year on unknown charges.
