Iraq's Talabani To Visit Syria

January 12, 2007 -- Iraqi President Jalal Talabani is scheduled to travel to Syria on January 14 for talks with his Syrian counterpart, Bashar al-Assad.

The leaders are expected to sign a range of security and commercial agreements between the two countries, which resumed diplomatic ties in November after a 26-year suspension.


The talks may also address U.S. allegations that Syria has allowed weapons and militants to cross its border into Iraq, a charge Syria denies.
