One British Soldier, 30 Taliban Killed In Afghan Raid

January 14, 2007 -- Afghan officials said today that 30 Taliban fighters were killed and 20 others wounded in a military operation in southern Afghanistan.

The British military says one of its soldiers died in the raid but could not confirm the Taliban fatalities.


The fighting started on January 13 in the Kajaki district of Helmand Province. It was part of an offensive to allow a safe passage for contractors who were repairing a major hydroelectric dam in the area.
