Putin Says Market Governs Russia's Energy Relations

January 18, 2007 -- Russian President Vladimir Putin says Russia would use the market, and not politics, as the basis for its relations with all countries.

Putin, meeting foreign ambassadors today, reiterated that Russia was a reliable energy supplier and said real energy security was only achievable if all members in the energy chain were "solidly reliable."


An oil transit dispute between Russia and Belarus earlier this month disrupted supplies to Europe.

ENERGY SECURITY is increasingly moving to the top of the EU's agenda in its dealings the outside world.
