Morozov took the test himself on February 1 (ITAR-TASS)

February 2, 2007 -- About 2,000 government officials in the Russian region of Ulyanovsk today were forced to sit a special test on Russian spelling, punctuation, and grammar.


Governor Sergei Morozov said he imposed the test after growing tired of receiving documents riddled with mistakes.


The test was based on school examinations designed for 16- and 17-year-old pupils.


Morozov says officials who get bad marks will have to take Russian-language classes.
